풀브라이트 ETA (English Teaching Assistant) 원어민영어보조교사 프로그램이 한국에서 시작된 지 올해로 30주년을 맞이하였습니다. 한미교육위원단은 ETA 프로그램 30주년을 맞아 그 간의 성과를 축하하고 ETA와 파트너 기관의 노고에 감사하고자 지난 12월 17일 기념식을 개최했습니다.
ETA프로그램은 1992년 한국의 고등학교에 배치된 장학생 8명으로 시범적으로 시작되었으나, 현재는 매년 100 여 명의 장학생들이 선발되어, 한국 전역의 초, 중, 고등학교에 배치되고 있습니다.
한국 ETA 프로그램의 획기적인 성장은 미국의 우수한 젊은이들의 열정과 헌신, 그리고 한국의 교육 현장에서의 적극적인 지원으로 이루어질 수 있었습니다.
이날 행사에는 ETA, ETA alumni, ETA 수용학교의 교장, 교감, 협력교사, 시도교육청 장학관, 장학사를 비롯하여 중원대학교 총장, 고려대학교 국제어학원장, 주한미국대사관, 교육부 관계자 등 약 170 여 명이 참석하였습니다.
ETA 30년 소개와 하이라이트 영상, 슬라이드쇼, 탈북민을 위한 영어교육에 참가한 ETA 표창 수여, 국악 연주와 한국무용 등 다채로운 공연으로 ETA 30주년을 축하하였습니다.
