Starting from the 2024 AP exam, AP Precalculus will be adopted.
The AP Precalculus course will provide students with an opportunity to thoroughly prepare for college math and motivate them to persist in studying math. It is expected to particularly benefit students majoring in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) by boosting student readiness for the subsequent math and STEM classes. It is also expected to be helpful for non-STEM major students.
- Students who are starting Algebra 1 in 9th grade
Students interested in STEM majors and careers will be better prepared to take calculus in college. - Students who are taking Algebra 1 before 9th grade
Students who take AP Precalculus before their senior year will be much better prepared for success in AP Calculus or any subsequent math they may need. - Students who are interested in non-STEM majors
Students can use a qualifying AP Precalculus Exam score to fulfill a college math requirement and focus on courses most central to their major.
The Fulbright Testing Center also supports the AP Precalculus exam starting in 2024. The AP Precalculus exam is scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2024, at 12:00 PM, and the late-testing schedule for students who are unable to take the exam on the regular testing day is on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 8:00 AM.
